One outdoor unit, no boiler indoors

A single weatherproof box sits outside the home on a paving slab or wall bracket. Inside it: the compressor, heat exchangers, and a fan. Two insulated water pipes run from it into the house to feed your radiators or underfloor heating and a hot-water cylinder. No boiler indoors, no big plant room.

Heat pulled from cold air

The unit pulls heat out of the outside air — even on cold winter days — and concentrates it into hot water. It takes 1 unit of electricity and turns it into around 3 to 4 units of heat. The colder it is outside, the less efficient it gets, but it still works at -15°C and below.

Active cooling — the summer comfort difference

Most heat pumps only heat. The PRO R also cools — running in reverse, it pulls heat OUT of the house and dumps it outside through the same circuit that delivers heat in winter. For larger renovations of period properties (where summer heat gains can be uncomfortable) or south-facing modern houses, the PRO R's cooling function replaces separate AC systems.

75°C keeps the existing infrastructure

Like the rest of the Grandis-spec ACONDs, the PRO R reaches 75°C water from the heat pump alone — no electric backup. For larger renovations of older houses where the existing radiators are sized for 70–80°C gas-boiler flow, the radiators usually keep working. Less disruption, lower retrofit cost.

Quiet running, even close to the house

Copeland Scroll inverter compressor in commercial-grade sound-dampened cabinet. Despite the higher output than the PRO N, sound performance remains residential-suitable. CleverBloom site-tests with sound-level meters at adjacent properties before final positioning.

Pairs with rooftop solar

If you have rooftop PV, surplus solar electricity can run the heat pump directly — effectively free heat. With a smart heat-pump tariff (like Octopus Cosy or Go), running cost can be very low compared to gas. The PRO R works with both.

Control

PRO R is the reversible version of the premium line — HeatUp app handles both heating and active cooling modes. Automatic seasonal switchover, weather compensation, multi-zone scheduling, and remote ACOND diagnostics through cloud connection.

HeatUp app · iOS / Android

Full system control from your phone. Heating, active cooling, and hot water modes. Set setpoints, view live status, schedules, and energy consumption. Single account supports multiple buildings — useful for landlords and property managers.

Automatic seasonal switchover

PRO R switches between heating and active cooling automatically based on outdoor temperature and your preferences. No manual change between summer and winter modes — the system handles it.

Weekly scheduling per zone

Independent setpoints and time programmes per heating/cooling zone. Bedrooms cooler than living areas at night. Holiday mode drops to frost protection.

Weather compensation

External weather sensor adjusts the flow temperature based on outside conditions. Less overheating, lower bills. Works for both heating and cooling modes.

Real-time energy monitor

Live kWh consumption visible in the app. Day, week, month views. Separate tracking for heating vs cooling so you can see what each mode costs.

Remote diagnostics

ACOND's service team can see the unit's status remotely. Most warranty issues get diagnosed before an engineer is dispatched.

Installation

The PRO R requires a 3-phase 400 V supply. For larger renovations and new builds, this is usually already in place or being installed as part of the building works. CleverBloom confirms at survey stage.

01 Survey 2-3 hours on site Heat-loss demand for the property (room-by-room calculation). Check existing radiators sizes against the PRO R's flow temperatures. Confirm electrical supply. PRO R requires a 3-phase 400 V supply. If your home is single-phase only (about 70% of UK homes), a 3-phase upgrade quote from your DNO is needed first — typically £1,000–3,000. Identify outdoor location and pipework route into the house.
02 Specify & design 5-10 working days MCS-certified design produced — required for the £7,500 BUS grant. Includes heat-loss calculation, radiator schedule, hot-water cylinder spec, electrical load calc, BUS grant paperwork. Approved design and pricing sent to the homeowner for sign-off.
03 Install 4-5 days on site Outdoor unit positioned on its base. Insulated pipework routed into the house. Old gas boiler removed if applicable. New hot-water cylinder fitted. Existing radiators usually kept. Electrical works completed. System filled and pressure-tested.
04 Commission & handover Half day First start-up: the system warms the house gradually over a few hours. Flow temperatures balanced per zone. Homeowner walked through the controls. Smartphone app paired. BUS grant paperwork submitted to the energy company on the homeowner's behalf.

Components

Six components make up a PRO R system. Premium-line reversible specification — Copeland Scroll inverter compressor, R290 propane refrigerant, and the indoor module supporting both heating and active cooling.

1 · PRO R outdoor unit

The heat pump itself. Copeland Scroll inverter compressor — premium choice, lower vibration and longer life. R290 propane refrigerant (GWP 3). Reverse-cycle for active cooling in summer. Stainless steel housing. Low-noise German fan motor. Built for 24/7 commercial duty cycles.

2 · Indoor module

Wall-mounted indoor unit houses the controller, weather compensation logic, reversing valve, RCD protection, expansion vessel, and HeatUp app connection. Supports both heating and cooling modes from a single indoor box.

3 · Hot water cylinder

Indirect cylinder, sized to the home (180–300L typical). Stainless steel with high-efficiency coil for PRO R's 75°C max water temperature. Anti-legionella heating cycle scheduled weekly.

4 · Buffer tank (often needed)

Buffer tank smooths compressor cycling and absorbs the mode-switch transients when going between heating and cooling. Almost always specified for PRO R installs to protect the compressor.

5 · Magnetic filter + treatment

Magnetic filter on the return circuit catches metal sludge. Inhibitor and biocide treatment protect the heat exchanger and pipework. Warranty requirement. Annual check during service.

6 · Power supply

Single-phase 230V for smaller PRO R sizes, three-phase 400V for larger ones. CleverBloom advises on supply upgrade if needed — we coordinate with your local DNO for the connection application.

Aftercare

A heat pump runs for about 15–20 years on average with normal maintenance. Like a boiler, an annual service keeps efficiency high and the warranty active.

5-year manufacturer warranty

ACOND's standard 5-year warranty covers the heat pump and the compressor (the most expensive component), at no extra cost or conditions. UK warranty work via ACOND's authorised service network.

Annual service recommended

Outdoor unit inspection, fan and coil clean, refrigerant pressure check, heating-system pressure check, magnetic filter clean. About 1–2 hours per year. Most homeowners get this done in spring or autumn.

No refrigerant top-ups expected

The unit is sealed at the factory with natural refrigerant (propane). No routine refrigerant work during normal life. If a fault ever requires opening the refrigerant circuit, only a refrigeration-qualified engineer can do this.

Smartphone app monitoring

The ACOND app shows real-time performance, energy use, and any error codes. Homeowners can adjust schedules and target temperatures remotely. Useful for spotting any issues early without needing a service call.

Weather-protected design

Stainless steel cabinet (IP24 outdoor rating) keeps the unit running through UK winters. Auto-defrost cycle prevents frost build-up on the coil during cold spells. Built to last decades in real-world weather.

UK installer support

CleverBloom is your single point of contact for the lifetime of the system — design, install, and ongoing technical support. ACOND UK provides the manufacturer service network for any warranty work.
