Set into the floor

The Clima Canal 19 is a recessed trench routed into the screed or slab parallel to a glazed wall. Inside the trench sits a high-output copper-aluminium heat exchanger, the DC fan boost assembly (standard on the 19-series), and a stainless-steel condensate tray with gravity drain when deep cooling is specified. A walkable grille covers the trench flush with the finished floor.

Higher output, taller glazing

Where the Canal 13 handles residential glazed extensions up to about 3.5 m tall, the Canal 19 is sized for the much larger commercial glazing runs found in hotels, restaurants, conference halls, and large open-plan office floors. Up to 5.3 kW of cooling and 4.8 kW of heating per linear metre — more than twice the Canal 13 output, sufficient for atria and double-height spaces with the deepest downdraught and heat-roll loads.

Fan boost as standard

DC fan boost is included as standard rather than as an option on the 19-series. Three or four brushless DC tangential fans within the trench casing modulate continuously 0–100%, ramping output up by up to 80% when the heat pump runs at the bottom of its flow-temperature range or when deep cooling is asked for. Silent at low modulation, stays below typical commercial background noise even at full boost.

Heating · downdraught barrier

In winter, warm water at 35–55°C flows through the heat exchanger. Air just above the trench heats and rises against the cold glass face — creating a warm air curtain that intercepts the cold downdraught spilling off the glazing. On commercial-scale glazing this downdraught can be substantial (a 5 m tall pane on a winter morning generates significant cold airflow), which is why the higher heating output of the 19-series is needed.

Cooling · heat-roll barrier with dehumidification

In summer the heat pump reverses, sending chilled water at 7–12°C (deep cooling) through the same trench. The fans now blow chilled air upward against the sun-heated glass face, intercepting heat-roll before it reaches the occupied space. At 7°C flow the chilled coil also dehumidifies — particularly valuable in restaurants and hospitality where latent loads are high. Condensate captured by the tray, gravity-drained through the slab.

Heat pump pairing

The Clima Canal 19 needs a commercial-scale reversible heat pump. CleverBloom pairs it with the ACOND Grandis L cascade — up to 58 kW from two units in cascade, sized for hotels, restaurants, and large office floors. For very large multi-trench networks the Systemair Geniox HP heat-pump-driven AHU is the alternative at full plant-room scale.

Deep · per m 5.3 kW At 7°C chilled flow, fan boost at maximum modulation. The Canal 19's headline output number. Sized for the highest commercial cooling loads on the perimeter.
Light · per m 3.1 kW At 16°C chilled flow, fan boost at maximum modulation. Drain-free option for projects where deep cooling can't be drained. Lower output but simpler install.
Chilled Flow 7–20°C Choose at design stage based on the room's cooling load and the floor build-up's drain feasibility. Deep cooling is the default specification for the 19-series.
Dehumidify ✓ At 7°C deep cooling. Latent heat removal alongside sensible cooling — particularly valuable in restaurants and hospitality where occupant and food latent loads are high.
Drain gravity Gravity through the slab to existing waste. Coordinated with the structural slab and waste runs at design stage.
Cooling COP ~4× Heat pump cooling efficiency at typical commercial cooling conditions. Significantly better than commercial split-AC or VRF cooling at the same load.
Refrigerant water-side All refrigerant stays in the heat pump's outdoor unit. Only water enters the trench. No F-gas certification needed at install or service.

Control

Manifold-level control

Hydraulics intelligence lives at the system manifold, not at the trench. A 2-port modulating valve at the manifold opens and closes the chilled or warm water flow in response to the zone thermostat. No proprietary control layer at the trench.

Fan boost modulation

DC fans modulate continuously 0–100% based on the same zone thermostat that drives the manifold valve. Silent at low demand, ramping up when the heat pump's flow temperature is at the bottom of its range or when deep cooling is asked for on a hot day.

Heat / cool changeover

Reads the heat pump's heat-or-cool changeover signal automatically. The same trench delivers warm air-curtain in winter and chilled air-curtain in summer. One installer-set parameter, no per-season operator intervention.

Dew-point sensor (deep cooling)

For deep-cooling installs, a dew-point sensor in the zone monitors humidity. If conditions approach the trench's surface temperature, chilled-water flow temperature is raised automatically — keeping condensation safely captured in the tray rather than appearing on surrounding floor finishes.

Multi-zone trench networks

Long commercial trench runs are typically zoned along their length — different sections of the same glazing run at different setpoints. Useful in restaurants where the bar end and the dining end have different occupancy patterns, or in office floors where east and west elevations need separate cooling logic.

Schedule programming

Time-of-day temperature programmes per zone. Office floors at 21°C from 8am to 6pm. Restaurants at 22°C from 11am to 11pm. Conference halls scheduled to event bookings via the BMS. Holiday/closed-day mode drops the lot to frost protection.

BMS integration

Commercial buildings with a central building-management system integrate the manifold valves, fan controls, and zone thermostats via BACnet, KNX, or Modbus at the gateway level. The trench network reports state to the BMS like any other hydronic emitter circuit.

Occupancy sensing

Optional CO₂ or occupancy-sensor input lets the trench network ramp up output when a room fills (conference hall before a session start) and back down when occupancy drops. Particularly useful for venues with intermittent high-occupancy events.

No interface at the trench

The trench grille is just a grille — walkable, removable for cleaning, otherwise inert. The building runs the system through thermostats, BMS, and the heat pump app, not through any trench-level interface.

Installation

01 Phone chat 15–30 minutes · free Talk us through your space, the floor build-up detail, the glazing run dimensions, the project occupancy profile, and your cooling brief. The Canal 19 needs a 190 mm trench recess — best specified at architectural design stage rather than as a retrofit. Send drawings or photos. We confirm trench length, grille finish, light or deep cooling, heat-pump pairing. Site survey for commercial projects over 4 m of trench. Full quote within 48 hours.
02 Fit day 2–4 days on site (typical commercial trench run) Trench routed into the slab or screed during the floor build-up phase (or pre-cast into the slab at new-build). Engineer arrives, runs on-site checks first thing — trench dimensions to drawing, drain run from each trench section back to existing waste, flow/return pipework entry point, electrical for the fan boost PSU. Trench casing fitted and levelled. Heat exchanger lowered in, connections made, fan unit and PSU connected. System pressure-tested in heating and cooling modes. Grille fitted after the floor finish is laid.
03 How to use 30 minutes · same day We walk the facility team through the zone thermostats, demo the heat/cool changeover, explain the dew-point sensor logic, walk the BMS integration if specified, configure schedules for the operating week, and show the grille-removal procedure for the annual clean. Hand over the one-page user card and 10-year warranty documents. Done.

Components

1 · Commercial trench casing

Galvanised-steel trench casing forming the recess in the slab or screed. 190 mm deep, 250 mm wide, supplied in 1 m sections cuttable on site. Heavier-gauge steel than the Canal 13 for commercial duty cycles. Insulated and sealed against the slab to prevent thermal bridging.

2 · High-output heat exchanger

Copper-aluminium core sized for the higher output per metre. Higher fin density, larger coil cross-section than the Canal 13. Water content ~0.8 L per linear metre — still low compared to a steel emitter, but optimised for the higher heat-transfer rate the commercial range needs.

3 · DC fan boost (standard)

Three or four brushless DC tangential fans inside the trench casing, modulating 0–100%. 24 V DC supply. Boost output by up to 80% on demand. Standard inclusion on the 19-series (optional on the 13-series). Replaceable as a service item.

4 · Walkable architectural grille

Heavy-duty walkable grille flush with the finished floor, designed for commercial foot-traffic loads including service trolleys and stiletto-rated surface engagement. Choose oak, walnut, brushed stainless steel, brushed brass, anodised aluminium, or bespoke materials for hospitality projects.

5 · Condensate tray + gravity drain

Stainless-steel tray along the base of the trench. Drainage by gravity into the building's waste runs beneath the slab — typically routed at first-fix to the nearest soil stack or floor drain. No condensate pump required at the trench (the trench is below floor level, gravity does the work).

6 · 24 V DC PSU

PSU concealed in the floor build-up or adjacent service cupboard. 230 V mains in, 24 V DC out to the fan bank. One PSU typically serves several metres of trench. RCD-protected from the building's lighting or small-power circuit.

Aftercare

10-year warranty

Jaga warrants the Canal 19 heat exchanger and commercial trench casing for ten years from commissioning. Covers the copper-aluminium core, the galvanised-steel casing, and the powder-coat finish. Conditional on commercial-grade water treatment and a magnetic filter on the heating circuit.

2-year fan & pump warranty

DC fan assembly and condensate-management hardware covered separately for two years. After that both are low-cost service items — accessible from above by lifting the walkable grille. Genuine Jaga spare parts available indefinitely.

50-year design life

Jaga publishes a 50-year design life on the Canal 19 body. Stainless-steel condensate tray prevents the corrosion that ends most commercial trench systems prematurely. Belgian-built to an institutional duty-cycle specification.

Quarterly grille check

Commercial venues benefit from a quarterly visual check of the walkable grille — foot traffic, service trolleys, and dropped items can dull a grille faster than residential use. The facility team can wipe and re-fit in a few minutes per linear metre.

Annual condensate flush

The condensate tray and gravity drain need an annual vinegar flush before the cooling season. CleverBloom commercial service plans include this. Critical in restaurant and hospitality settings where biofilm growth in the drain can cause odour and overflow if neglected.

Commercial magnetic filter & inhibitor

Commercial-grade magnetic filter on the heat-pump return and corrosion inhibitor in the fill water protect the Canal 19's narrow copper waterways from sludge and from mixed-metal corrosion. Mandatory for Jaga's 10-year warranty. Fitted in the plant area, serviced annually.
