Sits in a recess in the floor

A long, slim metal tray is set into the floor — usually along the bottom of a glass wall or under floor-to-ceiling windows. The heating element sits inside the tray. A grille covers the top, flush with the floor.

Hot water through a small coil

Hot water from your boiler or heat pump flows through a thin aluminium-and-copper coil inside the tray. The coil warms up. Warm air rises through the grille and along the glass.

Stops the cold downdraught at windows

When the inside of a big glass window gets cold, air falls down the glass, creating a chilly draught at floor level. A Trench convector under the window pushes warm air up against the glass, blocking the draught and stopping condensation.

Invisible from above

All you see from above is the grille — available in wood, aluminium, brass, or matt black to match your floor. Walk over it, place furniture near it, no one notices it's there.

Heat-pump friendly

Low-H2O technology means the Trench warms up quickly at lower water temperatures (30–45°C) — the range a heat pump runs most efficiently. Same principle as Strada and Guardian LST.

Heat + cool from one unit

Clima Canal models add a small fan inside the trench. When chilled water flows in summer (from a reversible heat pump), the fan blows cool air up out of the grille — gentle cooling without an AC unit on the wall.

Min Recess 65 mm Micro Canal needs as little as 65 mm of floor depth. Mini Canal needs 90 mm minimum. Useful for thin slabs, raised floors, or retrofits.
Heat Exchanger Low-H2O Same Low-H2O aluminium-copper coil as Jaga's wall radiators. Holds 90% less water than a steel panel — warms up quickly, cools down quickly.
Flow Temperature 30–75°C Works at heat-pump flow temperatures (30–45°C). Higher boiler flows (up to 75°C) work too — full flexibility for current and future heating systems.
Energy Saving 9–16% KIWA-certified energy saving versus steel panel radiators. Less water to heat means less wasted overheating.
Cooling Option Yes (Clima) Clima Canal models add an EC fan inside the trench to push chilled air out in summer. Heating-only models (Micro, Mini, Hybrid Canal) don't cool.
Grille Options 10+ standard Wood (oak, walnut, beech, birch), aluminium (silver, black, bronze), brass (polished, brushed, aged), or matt black. Custom RAL on aluminium.
Lengths to 5 m Standard lengths from 800 mm up to 5 m for long glass elevations. Curved sections available for curved glass walls. Made-to-measure on request.
Electric Option Available Mini Canal Electric hard-wires into the electrical system — 230V mains. Use where running heating pipework to the trench would be difficult or impossible.
Warranty 30 yr 30 years on the Low-H2O heat exchanger. Tray and grille warranted separately depending on material.
Made In Belgium Built in Diepenbeek, Belgium, by Jaga. Family-owned business since 1962. Patented Low-H2O technology launched 2000.

Easy controls

Same simple radiator controls as any wet-system radiator, plus optional fan control for Clima Canal (cooling) and Hybrid Canal (boost) models.

Standard TRV (default)

Each trench has a thermostatic valve dial — same as a wall radiator. Turn it up for warmer, down for cooler. The valve sits inside the recess for safety and tidiness.

Smart TRV (optional)

Replace the standard dial with a smart TRV (Tado, Drayton Wiser, Honeywell evohome) for app control and per-zone scheduling. Works with the Trench’s standard valve fitting.

Fan controls (Clima & Hybrid Canal)

Clima Canal (cooling) and Hybrid Canal (fan-boosted heating) versions have a small wall-mounted controller for fan speed — auto / bedroom / comfort / boost modes. Same control panel as a Jaga Strada Hybrid.

Works with your existing thermostat

Nest, Hive, Tado, or a simple programmer all work. The Trench connects to your wet-system heating like any other radiator — no special control infrastructure needed.

Auto switchover (Clima Canal)

Clima Canal models sense the water temperature and switch between heating and cooling automatically when paired with a reversible heat pump. No buttons to press in spring / autumn.

CleverBloom can help

Picking the right control setup for your model (basic TRV vs smart TRV vs fan controller) is something we work through during the design phase.

Installation

Trench convectors install during construction or major refurbishment — the recess needs to be formed in the floor as part of the build.

01 Phone chat Free · 20 min Tell us the project: new build or refurb, floor type, window layout, heat source. We work out which Trench model and what grille finish suits. Written quote in 2 days.
02 Survey + plans 1-2 hours Site visit to measure the windows, agree exact trench positions, mark recess sizes on the plans. We send drawings to your architect or builder so the floor can be detailed correctly.
03 First-fix during build Per construction schedule The recess is formed in the floor screed or slab during construction. We deliver the Trench units to coincide with that stage. Pipework runs to the trench position.
04 Final fit & grilles Half a day per unit Once the floor is finished, we drop the Trench unit into the recess, connect the pipework, fit the grille, and commission. The trench is now level with the surrounding floor.

Components

The only visible part of the Trench is the grille. Pick a finish that disappears into your floor or one that stands out as a feature.

Natural wood

Oak, walnut, beech, or birch grilles to match your wood floor. The grille becomes almost invisible against the surrounding planks.

Aluminium

Brushed silver, anodised black, or anodised bronze. Modern, clean, suits contemporary interiors and commercial spaces.

Brass

Polished, brushed, or aged brass. A premium finish that develops character with age. Common in high-end residential and hospitality.

Matt black

Powder-coated matt black for contemporary kitchens, dark stone floors, or industrial-style interiors. Clean modern statement.

Curved lengths

For curved glass walls, grilles can be ordered in curved sections. Made to your floor plan.

Custom RAL colours

Aluminium grilles can be powder-coated to any RAL colour for special projects — matching brand colours, an interior designer’s scheme, or a specific floor tile.

Looking after it

Once installed, almost nothing to maintain. The grille rolls up for easy cleaning.

30-year warranty

On the Low-H2O heat exchanger. The metal tray and pipework warranted separately. The grille itself has its own finish warranty depending on material.

Built in Belgium

Made by Jaga in Diepenbeek, Belgium. Family-owned business since 1962. Same Low-H2O technology as their wall radiators.

Roll up the grille to clean

Most Trench grilles roll up like a slatted blind — lift one end, the grille rolls out of the recess for cleaning. Vacuum inside the tray. Two minutes once or twice a year.

Bleed once a year

Like any wet-system radiator, bleed any trapped air once a year. We do it during the annual service if you have a contract with us.

Clima Canal fan service

If you have the cooling-capable Clima Canal version, the fan needs a yearly clean and the condensate drain checked. Standard part of an annual service contract.

No VAT on the install

UK government has removed VAT on heating installs until March 2027 when paired with energy-saving heat pump systems. CleverBloom handles the paperwork.
