Heat from the air, not from a wire

A small heat pump sits on top of the tank. It pulls heat out of the room’s air and puts it into the water inside the tank. Because it’s moving heat, not making it from electricity, it uses about a quarter of the power of a normal immersion heater for the same hot shower.

300 litres ready, 1,000+ a day

The tank holds 300 litres of water at 55°C, which gives about 530 litres of usable hot water at 40°C per cycle. Through the day, the heat pump tops the tank up automatically. Total daily output is over 1,000 litres — enough for any household.

Cools the room as a side effect

When the heat pump is taking heat out of the room’s air, that air cools down. Useful in a cellar or pantry where you want it cool anyway — you’re heating water and getting cooling for free. The cooler air comes out gently, like a small dehumidifier.

Charges off cheap electricity or solar

A built-in solar diverter sends surplus rooftop PV to the tank during the day — storing afternoon sun as evening hot water. With a smart tariff like Octopus Cosy or Go, the unit can also be set to charge overnight at the cheapest rates.

Fits where a cylinder might not

Air can come from and go to five different places — the same room, an adjacent room, an outdoor wall, or a mix. That means it can sit right against a wall or in a corner without cooking itself, and it can be ducted to draw air from somewhere you actually want cooled.

Quiet, app-controlled, fit-and-forget

The compressor sits inside an isolated housing, so the unit is one of the quietest in its class. The Kronoterm app shows tank temperature, energy use, and lets you adjust schedules. Anti-legionella cycle runs automatically once a week.

Tank Capacity 300 litres 300 litres total tank capacity.

Easy controls

Wi-Fi controller schedules heating on cheap-rate tariffs, prioritises solar PV, and runs anti-legionella cycles automatically — no need to think about it.

Kronoterm Cloud app · iOS / Android

Full system control from your phone. Set water temperature, schedule modes, view live status and historical energy use. Account supports multiple buildings — useful for second homes or rental properties.

Off-peak tariff scheduling

Heats the tank during the cheapest electricity windows — Octopus Go, Cosy, Agile, or any time-of-use tariff. Saves about £560 per year versus running on an immersion heater.

Solar PV diverter

When your panels are making surplus power, the Essenta uses it for hot water before exporting to grid. Variable-speed inverter matches PV output in real time. Free hot water on sunny days.

Anti-legionella cycle

Runs an automatic high-temperature flush periodically. The immersion element supports the heat pump for these cycles — meets HSE guidance for stored hot water.

Holiday mode

Drops the tank to a low maintenance temperature when you’re away. One tap on the app. Returns to schedule when you come back.

CleverBloom can help

Setting up the tariff schedule, matching it to your solar PV, and configuring anti-legionella timing is something we’ll walk through at install — or any time after.

Installation

Essenta replaces an existing hot-water cylinder. About a day's work for a qualified plumber and electrician. The KRONO-FLEX air-flow design keeps installation costs low.

01 Survey 1-2 hours on site Confirm hot-water demand (people in the home, shower habits). Identify the location — airing cupboard, garage, cellar, or utility room. Check that the room has at least 20 m³ of air or a ducted air route. Confirm electrical supply (single-phase, 13 A).
02 Specify 2-3 days desk work Pick the air-flow configuration: ambient, ducted in, ducted out, or both. Confirm whether to integrate with rooftop PV or with a smart tariff. Specify the take-off and connection details for the existing pipework. Order placed with Kronoterm UK.
03 Install Half day to a day Existing cylinder removed. Essenta delivered as a single unit (heat pump on top of tank). Positioned, levelled, and connected to mains in, hot out. Air ducts fitted if needed. Electrical connection completed. The whole thing arrives pre-charged with refrigerant — no specialist on site.
04 Charge & commission Half day First heating cycle takes a few hours. Schedule and target temperatures set on the controller. PV diverter configured if used. App pairing for the homeowner. Tested across one full hot-water cycle to confirm output and quiet running.

Components

What’s inside the Kronoterm Essenta — a standalone hot-water heat pump with a 300 L integrated tank, in one tall cabinet.

1 · Heat pump module (top)

The heat pump itself sits at the top of the cabinet. Small compressor, evaporator, and condenser pull heat from the surrounding air and pass it into the water tank below. About 75% less electricity than a traditional immersion heater for the same hot water.

2 · 300 L stainless steel tank

The water store. 300 L capacity at 55°C means 1,000+ L of usable hot water per day with reheat. Stainless steel inner tank with high-spec foam insulation. Mains-pressure delivery to taps.

3 · Heat exchanger coil

A long coiled heat exchanger runs through the water tank. Refrigerant in the coil gives up its heat to the water around it. The water never mixes with the refrigerant.

4 · Electric immersion backup

A small electric element provides backup heat during peak demand, recovery after running out, or weekly anti-legionella cycles (65°C). Normally only runs as a top-up — the heat pump does most of the work.

5 · PV-ready inverter

The compressor uses a variable-speed inverter that can match available solar PV generation in real time. When your panels are making 1 kW, the Essenta uses 1 kW. Free hot water on sunny days.

6 · Smart controller + cloud

Wi-Fi enabled controller schedules charging on cheap-rate tariffs, prioritises solar PV, runs anti-legionella cycles, and provides a phone app for monitoring. Connects to Kronoterm cloud for remote diagnostics.

7 · Air flow options

Five install configurations for the air flow — can pull air from the room and exhaust back to the room (room ventilation), or duct air in and out of the cabinet from elsewhere in the house. Removes the cooling-the-room concern for tight utility spaces.

8 · CleverBloom can help

Choosing the air-flow configuration, the right tariff schedule, and integration with existing PV or future heat pump is a design conversation we have during the site visit.

Aftercare

A heat pump has a compressor that runs daily, so a little routine attention pays back over the unit's life. Annual visual check during the heating–system service is enough.

Manufacturer warranty

Kronoterm warrants the heat pump and tank per their current published policy — available at quotation. Real-world product life is around 15–20 years for the heat pump, longer for the tank.

Air-filter cleaning

If the unit is in a dusty space (garage, cellar), the air intake filter needs an occasional clean — just a vacuum once or twice a year keeps performance high. The controller flags it when needed.

Anti-legionella runs automatically

The unit raises tank temperature to 65°C once a week to kill any bacteria that might develop in the stored water. No homeowner action needed; the cycle runs at off-peak times.

No refrigerant top-ups

The unit is sealed at the factory with natural refrigerant (propane). No refrigerant maintenance needed during normal life. If a fault ever occurs, only a refrigeration-qualified engineer can open the circuit.

Cloud monitoring

The Kronoterm app shows real-time tank temperature, energy use, and any error codes. Owners can adjust schedules and target temperatures remotely. The data also helps CleverBloom diagnose issues quickly if anything ever needs attention.

European manufacturer support

Kronoterm has been making heat pumps for 50 years. Spares and warranty work come from the European service network. CleverBloom handles UK design, installation, and project coordination.
