The airtight layer of the building

Intello Plus is the membrane that forms the airtight envelope of the building from the inside. Stapled or pinned to the room-side face of the structure (timber stud, rafter underside, internal masonry face on IWI scopes), taped at every joint with matched Tescon Vana, and sealed at every penetration with Orcon F or Roflex grommets. The complete installed system holds the building to PHI airtightness targets (1.0 ach@50Pa for EnerPHit, 0.6 ach@50Pa for certified Passivhaus).

Intelligent — reads the season

The polyolefin membrane changes vapour permeability based on the relative humidity around it. In winter (dry internal RH 30–50%), the membrane is vapour-tight (Sd > 25 m) and blocks moisture from the heated room entering the wall assembly. In summer (humid 70%+ RH inside the wall), the membrane opens up (Sd 0.25 m) and lets the wall dry inward. The intelligence is built into the polymer chemistry, not a sensor.

Stops winter condensation in the wall

The primary failure mode of insulated walls: humid internal air enters the wall through gaps, hits a cold dewpoint inside the assembly, condenses, and saturates the insulation. Repeated cycles cause structural rot, mould, and U-value collapse. Intello Plus stops the air movement (airtightness) and stops the moisture diffusion (vapour-tight winter Sd) — both failure paths blocked by a single layer.

Lets the wall dry inward in summer

Built-in construction moisture (wet cement, lime mortar, fresh timber), summer rain ingress, or rising-damp episodes leave moisture in the wall that needs to escape. Fixed-Sd vapour barriers trap this moisture; Intello Plus opens up when the wall behind is humid (Sd drops to 0.25 m), letting the trapped moisture diffuse inward to the heated room where ventilation removes it. The wall stays self-drying across its service life.

PHI listed — Passivhaus audit-ready

Pro Clima Intello Plus is listed in the Passivhaus Institut component database with verified performance data. Certified Passivhaus Designers reference the PHI-listed values directly in the PHPP energy model — no separate testing, no project-specific approval, no compensating measures. The PHI listing is what separates membrane systems specifiable in certified Passivhaus from generic polythene used in commodity new-build.

Complete ecosystem · not just a roll

Intello Plus alone doesn't deliver airtightness. The membrane works as the carrier layer for a complete sealing system: Tescon Vana tape at every membrane joint, Orcon F sealing compound at substrate transitions, Roflex grommets at cable and pipe penetrations, Tescon Profil for difficult corners. CleverBloom installs the full Pro Clima ecosystem on every PHI-target scope — the membrane is one component of a tested airtightness system.

Sd Winter > 25 m Equivalent air-layer thickness in winter conditions (~30–50% RH). Vapour-tight value that stops humid internal air entering the wall during the heating season.
Sd Summer 0.25 m Equivalent air-layer thickness in summer conditions (~70%+ RH in the wall behind). Vapour-open value that lets trapped moisture in the wall dry inward.
Tensile L ~380 N/50 mm Longitudinal tensile strength. Tear resistance during install — won't puncture at the staple line, won't tear during temporary site exposure to wind or service-trade activity between fabric layers.
Weight ~85 g/m² Membrane weight per square metre. Heavier than commodity polythene; lighter than rigid sheet. Three-ply construction balances tear resistance with handling weight.
Roll Size 1.5 × 50 m Standard supply format. 1.5 m × 50 m = 75 m² per roll. 3 m width also available for large open-plan ceiling work.
Design Life 100 years Manufacturer-published design life. Installations from 1990s German Passivhaus retrofits remain airtight after 30+ years; the polyolefin chemistry is stable for the life of the building.
PHI listed Passivhaus Institut component database entry with verified performance data. Specifiable into PHPP models with audit-ready confidence for EnerPHit and certified Passivhaus.
Fire E (component) Polyolefin co-polymer membrane fire class. Combustible Euroclass E as a standalone component. In the complete assembly with plasterboard on the room side, the wall section fire rating comes from the boards and insulation, not from the membrane.
VOC 0 Residual volatile organic compounds. Zero — polyolefin film is fully reacted at manufacture and doesn't off-gas. No formaldehyde, no plasticisers, no flame retardant chemistry.
Material declared Pro Clima publishes a full material declaration covering every component of the membrane. No undeclared additives, no proprietary "secret ingredients" common in commodity construction membranes.
Airtight 0.6 ach@50Pa PHI / EnerPHit airtightness target the installed system delivers when correctly fitted with Tescon Vana tape, Orcon F sealing, and blower-door verification.
Made In Germany Manufactured at Pro Clima's Schwetzingen facility in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Continuous production since 1981; the original intelligent variable-permeability membrane brand.

The complete airtightness ecosystem

Intello Plus membrane

The carrier layer — the airtight surface itself. Sized in 1.5 m × 50 m rolls (3 m wide also available). Stapled to timber framing, pinned to internal masonry, or adhered with Orcon F at substrate transitions. The membrane field is only as airtight as the joints around it — which is why the ecosystem matters.

Tescon Vana tape

Single-sided 60 or 75 mm adhesive tape for membrane-to-membrane joints. Bonds to Intello Plus on both sides of every overlap, creating an airtight seal at the joint. SOLID acrylic adhesive — bonds permanently, doesn't creep over decades. Used at every membrane overlap; typical 50 m roll covers 50 m of jointing.

Orcon F sealing compound

Solvent-free sealing adhesive in cartridge form. Used at membrane-to-substrate transitions where tape isn't practical — membrane bonded to brick, to concrete, to plaster, to timber. Applied as a continuous bead with the membrane pressed in; bonds permanently within 48 hours. Each cartridge seals ~5 linear m of transition.

Roflex penetration grommets

Pre-formed EPDM rubber grommets for electrical cable and pipe penetrations through the membrane. Sized for standard cable diameters (4–20 mm) and pipe diameters (15–110 mm). The grommet adheres to the membrane and seals around the penetration; airtight on first install, no need to re-seal as services flex through temperature cycles.

Tescon Profil corner

Pre-formed corner tape for difficult internal and external corners where Tescon Vana can't lay flat. Self-adhesive with reinforced edge; bonds to Intello Plus at the corner geometry. Common at every window reveal, every wall-to-ceiling junction, every internal corner where the membrane changes plane.

Blower-door verification

The complete installed system is verified by blower-door test before plasterboard goes up. Smoke generation under negative pressure reveals every air leak; CleverBloom retests after sealing remediation. Target 1.0 ach@50Pa for EnerPHit, 0.6 ach@50Pa for certified Passivhaus. Verified figures go to the certifying body for project sign-off.

Installation

01 Phone chat Free · phone or video Discuss the project — Passivhaus new build, EnerPHit retrofit, IWI on heritage properties, or loft conversion. Confirm the airtightness target (Part L, EnerPHit, or Passivhaus), whether blower-door testing is included, and who is responsible for airtightness verification. Indicative quotation provided within 48 hours of agreeing the scope.
02 Fit programme 3–7 days on site (typical 100 m²) Engineer arrives with Pro Clima membranes, Tescon tapes, Orcon F sealant, and Kaflex/Roflex grommets. Substrate is prepared, membranes installed with 100 mm overlaps, joints taped, transitions sealed, and service penetrations completed with airtight grommets. Airtightness checks are carried out before plasterboarding. Typical 100 m² installations take 3–4 days, while full-house EnerPHit projects usually require up to a week.
03 Handover & certification Project close-out Completion pack includes Pro Clima product certification, PHI component references where applicable, blower-door test report, installation photographs, airtightness detailing records, and documentation supporting Passivhaus or EnerPHit certification. CleverBloom provides a 10-year workmanship guarantee, while Pro Clima membranes are designed for a service life exceeding 100 years.

Material

Polyolefin co-polymer film

Three-ply polyolefin co-polymer membrane manufactured at Pro Clima's facility in Schwetzingen, Germany. The central layer is the variable-permeability film; outer layers are reinforced for handling and tear resistance. Total membrane weight ~85 g/m² — heavier than commodity polythene, lighter than rigid sheet materials.

Variable Sd by polymer chemistry

The Sd-variable behaviour is intrinsic to the polyolefin chemistry — the polymer's hydrogen-bonding network changes based on absorbed water content. No electronic sensors, no mechanical mechanism, no consumable component. The membrane responds to RH automatically across its service life. Pro Clima patented the chemistry; the product has been in continuous production since 1981.

Tear-resistant for site handling

Tensile strength ~380 N/50mm in the longitudinal direction, ~280 N/50mm transverse. Won't puncture at the staple line during installation, won't tear under wind load during temporary exposure during construction. Important on retrofit scopes where the membrane sits exposed for days or weeks between fabric trades.

VOC-free · zero off-gassing

The polyolefin film is fully reacted at manufacture and doesn't off-gas at building service temperatures. No formaldehyde, no plasticisers, no flame retardant. Pro Clima publishes a full material declaration; specifiable into BREEAM, LEED, and healthy-building certifications without compromise.

Fire: Class E membrane

Polyolefin co-polymer is combustible Euroclass E as a membrane. The fire class applies to the membrane as a single component; in the complete assembly with insulation and plasterboard on the room side, the wall section's fire rating comes from the plasterboard and insulation layers, not from the membrane. Pro Clima publishes whole-assembly fire-test data for standard Passivhaus build-ups.

Made in Germany since 1981

Moll bauökologische Produkte GmbH — manufactured at Schwetzingen, Baden-Württemberg. The Pro Clima brand pioneered intelligent variable-permeability membranes; reference installations across the German Passivhaus programme since the late 1980s. Continuous chemistry development for 40+ years.

Aftercare

100-year membrane design life

Pro Clima publishes a 100-year design life for Intello Plus in standard internal service. The polyolefin chemistry is stable; tape and sealing-compound bonds are permanent. Installations from 1990s German Passivhaus retrofits remain airtight after 30+ years of service.

No annual service required

No moving part, no electrical component, no consumable. Once the membrane is installed and plasterboard goes up, the airtight layer is entombed for the life of the building. Re-testing is optional after 10–15 years to verify continued performance, particularly on commercial scopes.

Blower-door re-test at handover

Standard CleverBloom service includes blower-door re-test at 6–12 months post-handover for any PHI-target scope. Confirms the airtight envelope has held after first-year shrinkage of building materials. Free of charge as part of our service plan.

Penetration discipline

After handover, every new electrical, plumbing, or HVAC penetration through the airtight layer compromises it unless it's sealed correctly. CleverBloom provides Roflex grommets and Orcon F to the homeowner as part of the handover pack — any future trade adding services through the membrane has the parts to seal it. Without this discipline, the airtight envelope degrades over a decade as cumulative penetrations accumulate.

MVHR is non-negotiable

An airtight envelope without mechanical ventilation is a moisture trap. Pro Clima Intello Plus stops uncontrolled air movement; MVHR provides the controlled fresh-air supply that replaces it. Every PHI-target scope is specified with MVHR (PRANA, inVENTer, Zehnder, Komfovent) as the inseparable companion. CleverBloom doesn't install airtightness without MVHR.

External breather membrane on outside

For walls with cavity or rainscreen construction, Intello Plus inside needs Solitex Mento (or equivalent vapour-open breather membrane) outside the insulation. The controlled-permeability assembly works because both faces are correctly specified — fixed vapour-tight on the outside would trap moisture; fixed-tight on both sides creates the polythene failure mode.
