Driver arrives

An EV pulls up to the bay — a paying customer at a small hotel, a member at a gym, an instructor's pupil-car at a driving school, a tenant at a BTR property. The Dual handles both bays independently — driver A and driver B can be different roles with different tariffs, or the same type (two visitors, two tenants). Each socket has its own session lifecycle, its own authentication, its own bill.

Authenticate independently

Each socket has its own RFID reader, its own QR code, its own back-office session entry. Two drivers can authenticate in parallel: driver A taps a member RFID card while driver B scans the QR code with the Monta app. The back-office assigns each session to the correct driver, the correct tariff, the correct billing relationship. Per-socket independence is what makes the Dual functionally different from a Single with two visits.

Allocate power

First socket plugged in gets full 22 kW (on three-phase supply). When the second socket plugs in, the dual-channel DLM splits available power — 50/50 by default (11 kW each on three-phase), with priority modes available in the back-office. The site's 4G or Wi-Fi backed OCPP endpoint manages both sessions in real time. Bays can finish at different times based on car size, charge state, and tariff.

Whole-site load awareness

Beyond the two-socket internal split, the unit reads total site current via the CT clamp. A hotel reception running peak HVAC, a gym studio class hitting peak gym-equipment load, an office at midday cooling load — the Dual throttles combined charging output to keep total site demand within the main fuse rating. Particularly important for retrofit installs on tight 100–200 A commercial supplies.

Meter and bill — both sockets

Each socket has its own MID class B energy meter — required for trade billing under EU Measuring Instruments Directive. The back-office reads both meters every 60 seconds, calculates each driver's bill against their assigned tariff, and settles to your bank account on the platform's schedule. Two simultaneous metering streams, two simultaneous billing events, one accounting reconciliation.

Settle revenue

Both sockets settle revenue through the same back-office account. Monta or similar pays out weekly or monthly to your bank, less platform fees per session. CSV export segments by socket — useful for sites where different sockets serve different purposes (staff bay vs visitor bay, members vs roaming, tenant A vs tenant B). One reconciliation point against the site's electricity bill, two revenue streams.

Per-Socket Max 22 kW · alone Maximum AC output per socket when only one is in use. Same speed as a dedicated single-socket Smart Wall — dual capability doesn't compromise individual-bay performance.
Combined Max 44 kW · combined Maximum combined output when both sockets are in use. 22 + 22 = 44 kW on three-phase supply when DLM allows. Most sites run DLM-managed combined output averaging 22–35 kW across realistic session patterns.

The Dual adds two-socket coordination on top: per-socket scheduling, dual-channel DLM, per-socket reporting, parallel multi-session monitoring.

Monta back-office · default for Dual hospitality

Monta is the most widely used OCPP back-office for small UK two-bay commercial sites — particularly hospitality (small hotels, gyms, restaurants). Set tariffs per socket, customers pay through the Monta app or scan a QR on the unit. Settles weekly to your bank. Typical Monta fee 7–12% depending on plan tier. Strong on roaming network integration.

Two independent sockets

Each socket appears as a separate device in the back-office. Independent schedules, independent RFID authorisation pools, independent tariffs, independent session history. Treats the Dual as two chargers sharing infrastructure rather than one charger with two plugs — gives operators full per-bay billing control.

Three DLM modes

Even split (default — both sockets get equal share when both active), priority A (socket A takes precedence, socket B gets leftover), priority B (mirror). Most hospitality sites run even split; fleet and driving-school sites run priority cascade. Switchable per time-of-day in the back-office.

Per-socket tariff strategy

Each socket schedules independently. Socket A on staff-RFID free tariff, socket B on visitor-QR full rate. Or both on the same per-kWh rate for fleet-only sites. Or socket A reserved for member RFID with a discount rate, socket B open to roaming. The back-office handles all permutations without firmware changes.

Per-socket RFID pools

Each socket has its own RFID authorisation pool — up to 16 cards per socket, 32 total. Useful when one socket serves household-staff or members and the other serves visitors or tenants. Per-socket pools combined with per-socket session history make accounting reconciliation straightforward.

Roaming network exposure

Both sockets appear independently on the Octopus Electroverse map, Bonnet network, Plugsurfing, Chargemap. Two-bay availability is a meaningful differentiator over single-bay sites in driver search filters — particularly for destination hospitality where the chance of finding a free bay matters to booking decisions.

Per-socket session history

Sessions tagged by socket. Useful for sites where one socket is a workplace amenity (staff charging) and the other is a paid revenue source (visitor or tenant). Monthly CSV downloads separable by socket for accounting integration with Xero, QuickBooks, or property-management software. Critical for HMRC-recognised home-business mixed-use charging.

Real-time two-socket dashboard

Back-office dashboard shows both sockets live — session status, kWh delivered, driver identity, projected session end. Important for hospitality sites where reception or duty manager needs to know which bay finishes next. Most platforms add destination-specific overlays: hotel guest assignment, gym member identifier, tenant ID.

Cloud + 4G + LAN

Both sockets share one network module. Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, LAN, 4G LTE backup standard — the same robust connectivity as the Single and Triple. 4G LTE matters especially on the Dual where two revenue streams go offline together if the site Wi-Fi drops; the 4G failover keeps billing reliable through outages.

Installation

01 Discovery call Free · phone or video Discuss the installation site, expected utilisation, billing model, and whether tethered or untethered chargers are preferred. We review the site's three-phase electrical supply, available consumer-unit capacity, cable routing, and recommend the most suitable back-office platform before providing a fixed-price quotation within 48 hours.
02 Fit day 5–6 hours · on site Engineer completes final electrical checks, installs the dedicated three-phase circuit and SWA cable, mounts both charging sockets, installs CT clamps where required, configures the back-office platform, commissions both chargers, and performs live charging and payment tests on each socket before handover.
03 Team training 1 hour · on handover We train your team on back-office management, tariff configuration, RFID cards, dual-socket reporting, troubleshooting, and daily operation. DNO confirmation and Workplace Charging Scheme documentation are handed over where applicable, with ongoing aftercare support following installation.

Components

Eight components make up the Smart Wall Dual — two Type 2 sockets, the AC supply, the CT clamp, earthing, the network module with 4G LTE backup, the OCPP back-office endpoint, the RFID readers, and the MID-certified meters. Single shared infrastructure on the supply side, independent metering and authentication per socket. Plus the configurable cable choice that defines whether you order Socket or Tethered.

1 · Two Type 2 sockets

Two IEC 62196-2 sockets in one enclosure. Each fully independent in session lifecycle, authentication, and metering. Untethered (Socket variant) by default — drivers bring their own Type 2 cables. Tethered variant available at order with fixed 5 m or 7.5 m cables for hospitality and driving school sites where customer convenience matters.

2 · Three-phase AC supply

Single three-phase 400 V AC supply feeds both sockets via the internal dual-channel UCP electronics. SWA cable run from a dedicated 63 A or 80 A breaker in the commercial consumer unit. Cable size 10 mm² or 16 mm² depending on run length and ambient. One supply cable, one breaker, one DNO G99 notification covers both sockets.

3 · CT clamp · site-wide

Single CT clamp on the property's main incoming supply. Reads total site current — used by the Dual's whole-site DLM logic to throttle combined output when other site loads peak. Particularly important for retrofit installs where the Dual is added to an existing commercial supply rather than designed in from new build.

4 · 4G LTE module · standard

4G LTE module fitted as standard. With two revenue-earning sockets, the cost of a Wi-Fi outage is doubled — 4G failover keeps the OCPP back-office reachable through site internet drops. SIM included; pay-as-you-go top-up via the OCTA app.

5 · OCPP 1.6J endpoint

The unit speaks OCPP 1.6 JSON natively to any compliant back-office. Single WebSocket endpoint serves both sockets — the back-office sees two logical chargers behind one network connection. Endpoint URL configured at commissioning; back-office swappable later without hardware changes.

6 · RFID + MID metering, per socket

Two independent RFID readers (one per socket) and two independent MID class B energy meters. Each socket metered separately for trade-billing compliance under EU Measuring Instruments Directive — critical for sites where different sockets serve different commercial purposes or different billing tariffs.

7 · Cable: Tethered vs Untethered

Untethered (Socket) — £2,080 fully installed. Drivers bring their own Type 2 cable. Flexible for sites where drivers vary, cable lives off the wall when not in use, easier to swap if cables get damaged. The right pick for hotels, gyms, BTR landlord properties where drivers may have their own cables, and any site where minimising street-frontage cable clutter matters.

Tethered (Cable) — £2,180 fully installed. Fixed 5 m or 7.5 m Type 2 cable permanently attached. Faster session start for customers without their own cable, no risk of cable theft from boot, more professional impression for premium hospitality sites. The right pick for driving instructor businesses, premium hotels, or sites where customer convenience justifies the +£100 uplift.

Aftercare

Two-bay commercial sites are revenue infrastructure — uptime matters financially. What OCTA covers as standard, plus CleverBloom's commercial monitoring service plan options designed for two-bay sites.

3 year manufacturer warranty

OCTA warrants the Smart Wall Dual for 3 years from commissioning. Single warranty covers both sockets, the dual-channel UCP electronics, the load-management logic, the network module, and both RFID readers and MID meters. Single warranty registration, single point of contact. Extended warranty to 5 years available on CleverBloom's commercial monitoring service plan.

UCP commercial heritage

The same UCP dual-channel platform runs in commercial Smart Wall installations at automotive dealerships and similar high-utilisation sites — field-proven daily across years of customer-facing operation. The home Octa Wall Dual is the same DNA without OCPP billing; the Smart Wall Dual is the platform in its native commercial environment.

UK-stocked spare parts

Spare parts hold in UK stock through CleverBloom's distributor channel — typical part swap-out (RFID reader, communication module, Type 2 socket) is a 2–4 hour fix on a single visit. Critical for two-bay commercial sites where an offline charger is real revenue lost. CleverBloom's commercial monitoring plan adds a same-day callout SLA where geography allows.

WCS grant — £700 ceiling

Workplace Charging Scheme grants £350 per socket — £700 for the Smart Wall Dual if both sockets are workplace-eligible. Single grant application, single OZEV approval, single credit against the install invoice. Cuts the typical fully-installed cost by around 25%. CleverBloom submits the application as part of the install scope.

Per-socket tariff parity check

Two sockets at different tariffs (staff free + visitor paid) need regular reconciliation. Make sure the visitor rate covers the staff bay's electricity cost, or you're cross-subsidising. Particularly relevant on sites where one socket sees substantially higher utilisation than the other. CleverBloom's commercial monitoring plan includes this review quarterly.

ICE-blocking on the second bay

Two-bay sites face a real revenue loss when non-EV vehicles park in an EV bay — common at gyms, hotels, and small workplaces during busy periods. Clear yellow hatching and "EV charging only" signage on both bays is critical for utilisation; bollard-type physical enforcement quoted as optional extra. The Dual's revenue economics depend on both bays being available for paying customers.
