Solar DC enters across 4 MPPT trackers

PV array DC enters the inverter across up to 4 independent MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) channels. Each channel runs its own optimisation — useful for properties with multiple roof aspects (east-facing morning roof + west-facing afternoon roof + south-facing main roof). Each MPPT tracks its own string's optimal voltage/current independently, so partial shading on one string doesn't drag down output across the others.

Inverter decides flow

Internal logic decides where the DC goes — to the house (after DC→AC conversion to 400 V three-phase), to the battery (DC→DC into compatible high-voltage battery), or to the grid (DC→AC and out through the consumer unit's export meter). The decision logic respects the homeowner-configured priority: self-consumption first by default, with overrides for backup reserve, peak shaving, or Octopus Agile arbitrage.

Three-phase balancing

Output distributes across L1, L2, and L3 phases. Unlike single-phase setups where the heat pump and EV charger compete for the same 80 A fuse capacity, three-phase splits the load across three separate phase legs. A 7 kW heat pump on L1, a 22 kW EV charger on L2 and L3, and the rest of the house split across all three — no single phase ever hits its rated current limit. This is the structural reason three-phase upgrades enable real electrification rather than constant fuse-tripping.

Battery charging at 50 A

When solar surplus exceeds house demand, or when the AI-managed Octopus Agile cheap window kicks in, the inverter charges the connected battery at up to 50 A — substantially faster than the 25–30 A typical on competing single-phase inverters. A 13.5 kWh GivEnergy battery fills from empty in around 1.3 hours, fitting comfortably inside the Octopus Intelligent Go 4-hour overnight window or a single Octopus Agile cheap-window opportunity.

UPS switching to backup

On grid failure, the inverter transitions to off-grid mode and supplies backup loads via the dedicated backup port. Switching is automatic and fast — within 20 ms, faster than most home appliances notice. The backup port supports unbalanced and half-wave loads, useful for older properties with motor-driven appliances (oil-fired CH circulation pumps, dishwashers, washing machines) that present non-resistive loads under outage conditions.

Cloud + monitoring

SolisCloud monitoring portal (web + iOS/Android app) shows real-time energy flow, daily/monthly/yearly generation, battery state of charge, grid import/export, and revenue tracking. OTA firmware updates push improvements — better Octopus Agile integration, refined load-balancing logic, new battery model support — across the inverter's 10-year warranty life. Single account supports multiple Solis inverters for portfolio operators.

AC Output 10 kW 10 kW continuous output at 400 V three-phase. The headline kW number defines what the inverter can deliver into the consumer unit at peak. Higher continuous-output ratings available within the same family (S6-EH3P 6K, 8K, 12K, 15K).
AC Voltage 400 V · 3-phase UK three-phase standard. L1/L2/L3 each at 230 V to neutral, 400 V phase-to-phase. Required for compatibility with three-phase loads (commercial heat pumps, 22 kW EV chargers in three-phase mode, larger water heaters).
PV Input · Max 20 kW · 16 kW usable Up to 20 kW PV array; 16 kW usable. The recommended max array size beyond which oversizing diminishes returns. For typical residential install (8–14 kWp) the inverter has substantial headroom for future array expansion.
MPPT Trackers 4 × MPPT 4 independent MPPT channels. Each tracks its own string's optimal voltage/current point. Critical for multi-aspect arrays (east/west/south splits, mixed-pitch roofs, partially shaded sections).
Battery Charge 50 A · 10 kW 50 A maximum charge/discharge current — equivalent to 10 kW with a high-voltage battery. Class-leading at this price point; most competing three-phase hybrids cap at 25–30 A. Fills a 13.5 kWh battery in ~1.3 hours during a cheap-grid window.
Efficiency 98% max Maximum European efficiency around 98%. Among the best in mainstream residential hybrid inverters. Determines what fraction of DC solar input arrives at the AC house circuit; over 25 years the difference between 96% and 98% adds up to thousands of kWh of useful energy.
UPS Transfer ≤20 ms ≤20 ms transition to off-grid mode on grid failure. Faster than most home appliances notice — fridges, freezers, lights, broadband, computers stay live through the transition. Supports unbalanced and half-wave loads on backup port.
Dimensions ~750 × 650 × 380 mm Compact for a three-phase 10 kW hybrid — fits within typical residential plant-room or garage wall space. Smaller than commercial-class three-phase hybrids that target 20+ kW continuous output.
Weight 40 kg Around 40 kg — heavier than the single-phase S6-EH1P 5K (15 kg) due to larger heat sink, more substantial DC switchgear, and three-phase output stage. Two-person lift recommended for wall mounting.
IP Rating IP65 IP65 — fully dust-protected and protected against low-pressure water jets. Suitable for unsheltered outdoor wall mount, garage, or plant room. Among the better IP ratings in mainstream residential hybrid inverters.
Operating Temp −25 → +60°C Wide range covers UK weather extremes. Internal thermal management protects electronics from overheating at peak summer output; sub-zero rated for outdoor winter mount.
Protection AFCI · DC · GFD Integrated AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter), DC disconnect switch, anti-islanding, AC and DC surge protection, ground fault detection. Class-leading protection package for a residential-class three-phase hybrid.
Communication Wi-Fi · LAN · 4G · RS485 Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Ethernet RJ45, optional 4G LTE, RS485 for battery communication, CAN bus for compatible battery brands. Pre-made cabling for battery, meter, and CAN to reduce install time.
Certification EN 50549 · IEC 62109 · G99 IEC/EN 62109-1/-2 (safety), EN 50549-1 Type A&B (grid code), VDE 0124, IEC 61000-6 (EMC), CISPR 11 (radio). UKCA and CE marked. G99 connection consent required for grid export in the UK.

Control

SolisCloud is the same platform as the S6-EH1P single-phase variant — homeowner-facing app, scheduling, tariff arbitrage, peak shaving for commercial sites. Three-phase capabilities add per-phase load monitoring and unbalanced load handling that single-phase systems can't address.

SolisCloud app · iOS / Android

Live view of solar generation, battery state, house consumption per phase (three-phase view shows L1/L2/L3 separately), grid import/export, SEG revenue tracking. Schedule charge windows, configure self-consumption priority, set backup reserve percentage. Web portal supports multiple inverters on one account — useful for landlords, commercial operators, or homeowners with multiple Solis-powered properties.

Octopus Agile · time-of-use arbitrage

Native Octopus Agile integration reads the half-hourly pricing API and schedules battery charge/discharge accordingly. Fills the battery during cheap or negative-priced overnight windows, discharges during expensive evening peaks. 50 A charge rate means the battery fills fast — comfortably inside the typical 2–4 hour cheap-price window without missing any opportunity.

Peak Shaving Mode (commercial)

Commercial sites on demand-charge tariffs benefit from peak shaving — programmable discharge during high-demand site periods to reduce peak kW draw. Configurable threshold (e.g. discharge any time site demand exceeds 30 kW). Substantially reduces the demand-charge component of commercial electricity bills — often the bigger commercial savings than energy arbitrage alone.

Per-MPPT monitoring

Each of the 4 MPPT trackers reports independently in the app. Critical for diagnosing under-performance on multi-aspect arrays — if the south-roof tracker is at 92% of expected but the east-roof tracker is at 65%, you know exactly which string to investigate. Faster fault diagnosis than single-MPPT inverters where all panels feed one stream.

Per-phase load monitoring

Three-phase output exposes per-phase current draw — L1 / L2 / L3 separately. Helps the installer balance loads across phases at install (don't put the heat pump and the EV charger on the same phase), and helps the homeowner spot unbalanced load conditions that could trigger DNO complaints in commercial installs. Pure single-phase systems can't see this.

Unbalanced load support

Backup port supports unbalanced three-phase loads (one phase heavily loaded, others light) and half-wave loads (older motor-driven appliances). Real-world residential loads rarely balance perfectly across three phases — the kitchen hits one phase hard, the EV charger another, the heat pump a third. Most three-phase hybrid inverters require balanced loads on backup; the S6-EH3P doesn't.

Multi-brand battery compatibility

High-voltage battery support across GivEnergy, Pylontech, BYD, Dyness, Soluna, Sungrow, Goodwe, and others — the up-to-date compatibility list is maintained at solisinverters.com. Decouples the inverter choice from the battery choice: if a customer's preferred battery brand changes between phase 1 and phase 2, the inverter doesn't need to be replaced.

Parallel multiple inverters

Multiple S6-EH3P inverters can be paralleled — up to 100 m STP CAT5 between units. Useful for commercial sites scaling beyond 10 kW (e.g. two S6-EH3P 10K inverters = 20 kW combined) without jumping to a fully commercial-class product. Configuration via the SolisCloud portal once the physical cabling is in place.

OTA firmware · improving over time

Firmware updates push over Wi-Fi, LAN, or 4G — new tariff integrations, refined battery management logic, new vehicle integrations (for solar diversion via Octa Wall etc), improved Octopus Agile decision algorithms. The unit installed today gets meaningfully better through its 10-year warranty. Solis ships major firmware releases quarterly.

Components

Seven components terminate at the S6-EH3P 10K — four solar string inputs (one per MPPT), the high-voltage battery, the three-phase grid tie-in, the backup port for UPS-protected loads, the communication network, and the integrated 3-phase smart meter. Plus the within-brand configuration choice that determines which Solis hybrid family member is right for your supply.

1 · Solar string inputs · 4 MPPT

Four independent MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) channels. Each handles one solar string, each tracks the optimal voltage/current operating point independently. Useful for multi-aspect properties: south-facing main roof on MPPT 1, east-facing morning roof on MPPT 2, west-facing afternoon roof on MPPT 3, with MPPT 4 in reserve for outbuilding panels or carport array. Total PV array up to 20 kW (16 kW usable).

2 · High-voltage battery input

DC battery connection compatible with high-voltage battery brands (GivEnergy, Pylontech, BYD, Dyness, others). The H (high-voltage) variant uses ~150–500 V DC battery bus — faster charging than the older 48 V low-voltage architecture, lower transmission losses, and the standard for premium batteries. Multi-brand compatibility means the battery choice is independent of the inverter choice.

3 · Three-phase grid tie-in

400 V three-phase grid connection — L1, L2, L3, neutral, earth. Requires three-phase supply at the property (typical for new builds and most properties with substantial electrical load). DNO G99 connection consent required for grid export. CleverBloom handles the application as part of the install scope; typical approval 4–8 weeks for residential, longer for commercial.

4 · Backup port · UPS loads

Dedicated backup output for critical loads — typically wired to a sub-circuit in the consumer unit covering fridge/freezer, broadband router, key lighting, and any medical equipment. On grid failure the inverter switches the backup port to off-grid mode within 20 ms. Backup port supports unbalanced and half-wave loads (motor-driven appliances), unusual flexibility at this price point.

5 · 3-phase smart meter · included

Three-phase smart meter ships with the inverter, fitted on the property's incoming supply tail. Reads grid import/export per phase, plus total house consumption. Feeds the inverter's load-management logic — without it the inverter operates on fixed self-consumption rules; with it, real-time arbitrage and peak shaving become possible. Pre-made meter cabling reduces install time.

6 · Communication · Wi-Fi / LAN / 4G

Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Ethernet RJ45, optional 4G LTE module. Connects to SolisCloud for monitoring, Octopus API for tariff arbitrage, and the homeowner's Octa Wall (where present) for solar diversion. 4G LTE recommended for properties with marginal Wi-Fi at the inverter location.

7 · Three-Phase vs Single-Phase Variant

S6-EH3P 10K (Three-Phase) — this page. £2,250 supply. Requires three-phase 400 V supply at the property. The right pick for new builds (most have three-phase as standard), larger homes with substantial electrification load (heat pump + EV + battery + solar all running), and any property where single-phase 80 A capacity is genuinely tight.

S6-EH1P 5K (Single-Phase) — see the single-phase product page. £1,400 supply. Right pick for typical UK terraced and semi-detached homes with single-phase 80–100 A supply, where the combined household load doesn't approach the main fuse rating. Same Solis engineering family, same SolisCloud platform, same warranty — just sized for single-phase supply at a much lower price.

Aftercare

Three-phase residential and light-commercial inverter installs need aftercare that matches the system's role. What Solis covers as standard, plus CleverBloom's solar service plan options.

10-year manufacturer warranty

Solis warrants the S6-EH3P 10K for 10 years from commissioning, with optional extension to 20 years available. Covers the inverter electronics, the MPPT trackers, the integrated smart meter, and the UPS switching logic. Solis is a Tier 1 inverter manufacturer with established UK distribution; spare-parts and warranty claims handled through the distributor network with typical 2-week turnaround on parts.

Solis UK distributor support

Solis has established UK distribution through Segen, Midsummer Energy, and others. Technical support via UK-based engineers, spare parts held in UK stock, warranty claim handling local rather than overseas. Lead time for replacement units typically 1–2 weeks. Critical for commercial sites where an offline inverter means a quiet PV array and lost SEG revenue.

Integrated AFCI

Integrated Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter detects and interrupts series-fault electric arcs in DC strings. Required by US code (NEC 690.11) and recommended UK practice — detects insulation degradation in DC cables before it becomes a fire risk. Particularly relevant for PV systems where DC strings run through roof voids or above living spaces. After 5 detections in 24 hours the inverter shuts down for manual reset.

Integrated DC disconnect

DC disconnect switch built into the inverter — meets safety standards without requiring an external DC isolator (though one is typically also installed at the array). Allows safe inverter servicing or removal without dismantling the solar array. Reduces installation cost and ongoing maintenance complexity.

Phase-balance vigilance

Three-phase systems can develop unbalanced loads as new appliances are added — a heat pump on L1, an EV charger on L2, kitchen circuits on L3. Over time the household phase loading drifts. CleverBloom's solar service plan includes annual phase-balance review through the SolisCloud per-phase monitoring. Catches creeping imbalance before it causes DNO compliance issues or efficiency loss.

Tariff-drift quarterly review

Octopus Agile and other dynamic tariffs change pricing curves over time — the savings model that worked in year one may not be optimal by year three. Quarterly review against the actual electricity bill (included in CleverBloom's solar service plan) catches drift. Particularly important when the inverter is paired with a battery and the household relies on time-of-use arbitrage savings.
