All four duct connections are on the side of the unit (not the top), and the unit lies horizontally rather than standing vertically. Designed for ceiling voids, lofts, attics, suspended ceilings, or floor-mounted basement plant — anywhere a wall-mounted vertical unit (like the VTR) won't fit. L or R hand variants suit different room layouts.
A single VSR 300 unit serves homes up to 240 m². Filtered fresh air is supplied to habitable rooms (bedrooms, living rooms, study); stale air is extracted from wet rooms (kitchens, bathrooms, utility). Two EC RadiCal fans run continuously to maintain balanced pressure across the whole home.
A slowly-rotating aluminium wheel sits between the supply and extract air streams. Each side absorbs heat from the warm air it passes, then releases it into the cooler air on the next rotation. This design also transfers some humidity back into the supply — preventing winter dryness without an enthalpy core.
Standard configuration: F7 (ISO ePM1 50%) on the supply side, G4 (ISO Coarse 60%) on the extract side per the Passivhaus certificate. F7 catches pollen, fine dust, smog particles. The control panel's filter timer flags replacement, typically every 6–12 months depending on outdoor air quality.
A built-in humidity sensor in the extract air enables demand control as standard — the unit ramps fan speed when shower steam or kitchen activity drives RH up. Optional CO₂ sensor adds occupancy-driven control. Manual override always available via the SAVE Touch panel.
An integrated electric reheater downstream of the rotor maintains a comfortable supply air temperature even at outdoor temperatures of −10°C. The reheater is thermostatically controlled — only draws power when needed. Required for Passivhaus comfort criterion (supply air ≥16.5°C at −10°C outdoor).
The VSR 300 ships with a SAVE Touch colour touchscreen panel that connects to the unit via the connection board. The panel can be mounted on the unit itself or remoted to a wall position — useful when the plant unit lives in the loft. Plus optional SAVE CONNECT WiFi/cloud, Modbus RS-485, and demand-control sensors.
SAVE Touch panel (wall or unit)
Full-colour touchscreen, user-friendly interface. Connects via the side connection board. Mount on the unit if it's accessible, or wire to a convenient wall position elsewhere in the home — ideal when the plant lives in the loft. Multiple panels can be daisy-chained for larger installs.
SAVE CONNECT (WiFi)
Optional WiFi accessory module for remote access via the SAVE Connect mobile app (iOS and Android) or the homesolutions.systemair.com web portal. Local or remote control, no LAN cabling required, links to Amazon Alexa and Google Home for voice control.
Modbus RS-485
Standard on every unit. Direct integration with home automation and BMS systems via Modbus protocol — useful for commercial installs (offices, classrooms) where ventilation needs to integrate with heating and lighting control.
Built-in humidity sensor
Standard — fitted in the extract air chamber from factory. Demand control is enabled out of the box: the unit ramps fan speed when extract RH rises (shower, cooking, drying laundry). No optional sensor needed for this.
Optional CO₂ sensor
Add-on CO₂ sensor for occupancy-driven control. Useful for home offices, classrooms, and bedrooms where humidity-only control isn't enough. Wires directly into the connection board on the side of the unit.
Week schedule
Built into the SAVE Touch controller — set up to two airflow time periods per day across each day of the week. Useful for homes with predictable occupancy patterns (away during working hours, busier in evenings).
Boost / refresh mode
Timed boost at high speed for clearing odours after cooking, fast air change after gatherings, or post-shower humidity. Returns to scheduled airflow automatically. Triggered via touchscreen, app, or external switch.
Automatic summer mode
When indoor temperature exceeds the set threshold and outdoor air is cooler, the unit automatically switches to summer operation — cooling recovery without active heat exchange. Returns to winter operation as conditions change.
Centralised whole-house MVHR is a significantly bigger install than a wall unit — typically 3–5 days on site, plus a design phase. The VSR 300 is the right pick when the plant location is a loft, ceiling void, or horizontal floor mount — where a vertical wall-mounted VTR wouldn't fit.
Centralised whole-house MVHR. The VSR 300 plant unit sits horizontally in a service location (loft, ceiling void, suspended ceiling, basement floor) with four side-connected duct runs to fresh-air intake, exhaust outlet, supply manifold, and extract manifold.
VSR 300 plant unit
Double-skinned panels, fully insulated cabinet. Designed to lie horizontally — sits on a loft floor, in a ceiling void, or on a basement plinth. Compact footprint suits tight roof spaces. Left or right hand variants — confirm at order.
Rotary heat exchanger
Variable-speed rotating exchanger with moisture transfer. Removable for cleaning every 3 years (or sooner if airflow performance drops). Drive belt is the only consumable hardware in the rotor mechanism.
EC RadiCal fans
Two RadiCal impeller fans with EC (electronically commutated) motors. Modern brushless DC technology — quiet operation, low specific fan power (0.35 Wh/m³ Passivhaus certified), 50% less energy than equivalent AC motors. Lifetime-lubricated bearings, maintenance-free.
Four side-connected duct spigots
All four ducts (intake, exhaust, supply, extract) connect on the side of the unit — the defining VSR architecture. Allows ductwork to run horizontally from the unit into a flat ceiling void or loft, without the vertical clearance that top-connected units (like the VTR series) need.
F7 + G4 filter set
F7 (ISO ePM1 50%) supply filter and G4 (ISO Coarse 60%) extract filter per the Passivhaus certificate. Tool-free replacement. Higher-grade alternatives available for urban or pollen-heavy environments.
Integrated 1670 W reheater
Electric reheater downstream of the rotor — maintains supply air ≥16.5°C even at outdoor temperatures of -10°C (Passivhaus comfort criterion). Thermostatically controlled, only draws power when needed.
Inspection hatches both sides
Service access from either side of the unit — a meaningful advantage when the plant lives in a tight loft or basement plinth. Means the rotor, fans, and filters can be reached without dismantling adjacent ductwork.
SAVE CONNECT cloud module
Optional WiFi accessory for remote control via the SAVE Connect mobile app or web portal. Plugs into the connection board on the side of the unit. Required for app control, not needed for local SAVE Touch panel operation.
The VSR 300 is engineered for long-term low-touch operation. Filters change in under five minutes; the rotor is removable for periodic cleaning; the ductwork itself has no moving parts. Inspection hatches on both sides simplify service access in tight loft spaces.
2-year manufacturer warranty
Systemair provides a 2-year manufacturer warranty on the unit as standard. Built to Eurovent certification and ErP compliance with global service network. Mature platform — Systemair has been making rotary MVHR since 1974.
Filter change every 6–12 months
F7 supply and G4 extract filters, accessed via the side inspection hatches. Tool-free replacement. The SAVE Touch panel flags when change is due (default 12 months, adjustable 3–15 months). Filter sets typically £25–40 from UK distributors.
Removable rotary exchanger
The heat exchanger lifts out from the side for cleaning every 3 years (or sooner if airflow performance drops). Wash in hot soapy water (no ammonia detergents). Both-sided access makes servicing in loft spaces significantly easier than top-only-access units.
Drive belt — replaceable
A rubber drive belt rotates the heat exchanger via the rotor motor. The SAVE Touch controller flags an alarm if the belt slips or breaks. Replacement is straightforward — Systemair supplies the belt as a service spare. Plan for one belt change in a 10-year service life.
Ductwork — no scheduled maintenance
Once correctly installed and balanced, modern smooth-bore plastic ductwork runs maintenance-free. Periodic visual inspection of intake/exhaust grilles for leaf or debris accumulation is the only routine task.
Optional CleverBloom service plan
For homeowners who don't want to climb into the loft annually, CleverBloom offers a yearly visit covering filter change, rotor inspection, flow rate verification with anemometer, and any sensor recalibration. Specify at handover.
Heat pump unit only. Radiators, UFH, and emitters are on the heating page.
