Ceiling-void cassette

The SysCoil cassette sits in the ceiling void above a suspended plasterboard ceiling or within a service zone in a concrete soffit. From the room below, only a flush powder-coated grille is visible. Flow and return pipework, condensate drain, electrical supply, and fan assembly all live in the void. The room reads as a clean, uninterrupted ceiling plane.

Native to Systemair AHU systems

SysCoil is engineered to drop directly into a Systemair Geniox HP heat-pump AHU network. The control protocol, the hydraulic interface, the manifold integration — all designed to work together at first commission. For commercial buildings where the rest of the building services package is already Systemair (Geniox AHU, Topvex MVHR, SAVE residential MVHR), the SysCoil is the lowest-friction cooling emitter to specify.

Sized 2 to 8 kW per cassette

One product family covers a wide commercial range. A 2 kW unit suits a treatment room or a small office; a 5 kW unit suits a standard meeting room or hotel suite; an 8 kW unit suits a large open-plan office zone or a small restaurant section. Multiple cassettes serve larger rooms — each modulating independently against its own zone thermostat or coordinated lock-step against a shared setpoint.

Deep cooling at 7–12°C

SysCoil accepts chilled water at 7–12°C from a reversible heat pump. The chilled water is well below typical UK summer dew point, which means water vapour condenses on the cold heat exchanger surface — exactly what split-AC cassettes do. The result is real deep cooling: sensible heat removal plus latent heat removal (dehumidification) at full fan-coil output levels.

Condensate management

A stainless-steel condensate tray captures the water condensing on the heat exchanger. A small low-noise pump lifts the water up and along to existing waste — typically routed through the ceiling void to a soil-stack riser. Vertical lift up to 3 m, horizontal run up to 10 m. Float-switch alarm fires before any overflow risk; the cassette shuts down cooling mode automatically and notifies the BMS.

Same pipes heat and cool

In heating mode the same heat pump sends warm water at 35–55°C through the same flow pipe. SysCoil switches mode automatically when it reads the heat pump's changeover signal. The condensate pump is dormant in heating mode (no condensation occurs at room-warm temperatures). One pair of pipes serves both seasons across the entire cassette layout.

Output Range 2–8 kW By cassette size at 7°C chilled flow, 22°C room. The widest commercial range in the CleverBloom catalogue — one product family covers everything from treatment room to open-plan trading floor.
Chilled Flow 7–12°C Below UK summer dew point — condensation forms on the heat exchanger and is captured by the stainless-steel tray. The deep-cooling temperature range gives fan-coil output levels.
Dehumidify ✓ Latent heat removal alongside sensible cooling. Indoor relative humidity drops as the cassette runs — particularly noticeable on muggy summer days.
Condensate Lift 3 m / 10 m Pump capability for ceiling-void drain routing. Vertical lift up to 3 m, horizontal run up to 10 m. Float-switch alarm if drain backs up.
Floor Coverage 25–85 m² Typical coverage per cassette by output size. 2 kW → ~25 m² treatment room; 5 kW → ~55 m² meeting room; 8 kW → ~85 m² open-plan zone.
Noise ≤34 dB(A) On full fan boost. Quieter than the indoor unit of a typical split-AC cassette by 4–6 dB. Modulates down to near-silent in low-demand conditions.
Refrigerant water-side All refrigerant stays in the heat pump's outdoor unit. Only water enters the ceiling void. No F-gas certification needed at install or service.

Control

Native BACnet

SysCoil speaks BACnet natively at the cassette controller — no gateway required to integrate with a commercial BMS. Modbus and KNX also supported via standard interface modules. The lowest-friction commercial controls integration in the CleverBloom cooling range.

Zone thermostat

A wall-mounted thermostat per zone reads room temperature and sets cassette fan speed and flow demand. One thermostat can drive multiple cassettes serving the same open-plan zone. Wireless and wired options available depending on the building's controls strategy.

Heat / cool changeover

Reads the heat pump's heat-or-cool changeover signal automatically. In heating, fans assist warm-water output. In cooling, fans assist chilled-water output and the condensate pump activates. One installer-set parameter, no per-season operator intervention.

Fan-speed modulation

EC fans modulate continuously from 0% to 100%. Output tracks room demand linearly — no on/off cycling, no temperature swings, no fan noise unless the room genuinely needs it. Output gives the room what it asks for, at the lowest fan speed that meets demand.

Dehumidify mode

A standalone mode that prioritises moisture removal over temperature reduction. Useful in shoulder seasons when the air is muggy but not hot. Fans run at low speed, chilled water continues to circulate, condensate is captured. Standard inclusion on SysCoil's commercial controller.

Occupancy & CO₂ integration

Optional inputs from occupancy sensors and CO₂ sensors let the cassette ramp up output when a room fills (conference room before a session start) and back down when occupancy drops. Particularly useful for venues with intermittent high-occupancy events.

Schedule programming

Time-of-day temperature programmes per zone. Office floors at 21°C from 8am to 6pm, setback to 18°C overnight. Hotel rooms at 22°C during occupied periods, 18°C during housekeeping mode. Holiday mode drops everything to frost protection.

Condensate alarm

If the condensate pump fails or the drain backs up, an alarm fires before water overflows the tray. The cassette shuts down cooling mode automatically and notifies the BMS — fail-safe protection against ceiling damage in floors below.

Coordinated multi-cassette zoning

Open-plan rooms with multiple cassettes can run in lock-step (single setpoint, all modulate together) or as separate zones (different setpoints for different areas of the same room). Configured at design stage based on the room's thermal patterns.

Installation

01 Phone chat 15–30 minutes · free Talk us through your space, the ceiling void detail (suspended grid, concrete soffit, steel deck), the proposed cassette layout, and your cooling brief. Send drawings or photos. We confirm cassette quantity and sizing for the floor area, drain routing back to existing waste, heat-pump pairing, and quote per cassette. Full quote within 48 hours. Site survey for projects over 2 cassettes.
02 Fit day 1–3 days on site (per ceiling area) Engineer arrives, runs the on-site checks first thing — ceiling void depth at each proposed cassette location, structural soffit fixings, drain route from each cassette back to existing waste, electrical supply route, water hardness reading on the system fill. Cassette hangers fixed to the structural soffit, cassettes lifted, flow/return tails brought across, condensate pumps connected. Grille positioned and trimmed to the ceiling finish. System filled, pressure-tested. Cooling mode commissioned by running the heat pump in reverse and verifying condensate flow.
03 How to use 30 minutes · same day We walk you through the BMS interface and any zone-thermostat user controls, show the auto/comfort/eco modes, demo the dehumidify mode, explain the condensate alarm logic, and configure schedules for the typical operating week. Service-access procedure shown to the maintenance team. One-page handover card with installer contact and next service date.

Components

1 · SysCoil cassette chassis

Galvanised-steel chassis housing the heat exchanger, fan bank, and condensate tray. Typical 600 × 600 mm footprint to match suspended-ceiling grids, with larger 1,200 × 600 mm and 1,200 × 1,200 mm options for higher outputs. Slim 220 mm chassis depth installs in a 240 mm ceiling void while leaving 20 mm service clearance.

2 · Flush grille

Powder-coated aluminium grille sitting flush with the ceiling soffit. One side forms the perforated return air intake while four-way supply slots surround the perimeter. Finished in a standard RAL colour or supplied in bespoke finishes for premium interiors.

3 · Heat exchanger coil

Copper-tube, aluminium-fin heat exchanger sized to the cassette output. Two-row coils serve 2–3 kW units, while three-row versions cover 5–8 kW capacities. A stainless-steel condensate tray sits beneath the coil.

4 · EC fan bank

Brushless electronically commutated fans with continuous 0–100% modulation. Powered directly from a 230 V supply with integrated control electronics. Mounted inside the chassis, drawing return air through the grille and supplying conditioned air through the outlet slots with lower noise than equivalent AC fans.

5 · Condensate tray & pump

Stainless-steel tray captures condensation from the cooling coil. A low-noise condensate pump lifts water up to 3 m vertically and 10 m horizontally to the nearest drain. Float-switch protection activates if the drain backs up.

6 · Native controller

Integrated controller supporting BACnet, Modbus, and KNX communication. Accepts standard 0–10 V or dry-contact thermostat inputs and can operate as a native node on a commercial BMS without proprietary gateways or protocols.

Aftercare

5-year warranty

Systemair UK covers the SysCoil cassette, heat exchanger, chassis, powder-coated finish, and EC fan motors for five years from commissioning. Warranty can be extended to ten years with documented annual servicing. Parts and labour are included.

2-year pump & controller warranty

The condensate pump and onboard controller are covered separately for two years. Both are designed as easily replaceable service items, accessible through the grille opening and typically swapped in under thirty minutes using genuine replacement parts.

25-year design life

Engineered for demanding commercial environments with an expected service life of around twenty-five years. The robust chassis and heat-exchanger assembly are designed for continuous institutional use, supported by long-term parts availability.

Annual filter cleaning

The washable return-air filter should be removed, vacuumed, washed, dried, and reinstalled once a year. Routine cleaning maintains airflow, protects the heat exchanger from dust build-up, and is typically completed in around ten minutes per cassette.

Annual condensate flush

Flush the condensate tray and drain with a mild cleaning solution before each cooling season to prevent biofilm and blockages. Regular maintenance reduces the risk of overflow and helps ensure reliable operation throughout summer.

Heating-system protection

A magnetic filter and corrosion inhibitor are recommended to protect the heat exchanger from sludge and mixed-metal corrosion. These measures help preserve efficiency, extend equipment life, and support long-term warranty conditions on retrofit systems.
