Whole-building commercial flow

A single Topvex FR serves a commercial space — office floor, school, daycare, retail unit. Filtered fresh air is supplied to occupied zones via a duct distribution system; stale air is extracted from kitchens, toilets, meeting rooms. Two EC plug fans run continuously to maintain balanced pressure. Sized in four steps from 240 m³/h (FR03) to 4,800 m³/h (FR11).

Dual rotating heat exchangers

The defining feature of the FR range. Two rotating heat wheels in series rather than a single rotor — increases heat exchange surface within a flat physical envelope. At balanced airflow, efficiency reaches up to 80% across the range — 77.5% on this model. Robust construction; rotors remain stable after long operating life. Removable for cleaning and service.

F7 + M5 filter set

Factory configuration: F7 (ISO ePM1 60%) on the supply, F5 (M5/ISO ePM10) on the extract. Eurovent certified. Filter monitoring via pressure transmitters with airflow-adjusted setpoint — controller alerts when pressure drop indicates change is due. F7 extract option available for hygiene-critical scopes (schools, daycare).

Flat false-ceiling design

Designed flat — mounts horizontally in a false ceiling void, on the floor, or upright on the long side. Two large inspection doors give full service access. The flat geometry is the reason Topvex FR specifically appears in office and school fit-outs — fits where taller AHUs won't.

EC plug fans

Two electronically commutated (EC) plug fans, 15–20% lower energy consumption than equivalent AC asynchronous motors when speed-controlled. CAV (Constant Air Volume) standard; VAV (Variable Air Volume with constant duct pressure control) optional. Integrated with the unit's controller for real-time airflow adjustment.

Reheater options

Order-time choice: EL (electric reheater, 5–15 kW depending on size), HWL (Hot Water Low power), HWH (Hot Water High power), or no reheater (add downstream coil separately). Selected per project based on building's heating strategy — heat pump-fed hot water typically pairs with HWL or HWH.

Airflow 3,150 m³/h 3,150 m³/h supply + 3,150 m³/h extract at 115 Pa external pressure. Face velocity 2.2 m/s. CAV (Constant Air Volume) cascaded extract control.
Heat Recovery 77.5% 77.5% temperature efficiency (wet/EN 308). Humidity efficiency 74.5% in winter mode. Dual rotating heat exchanger with condensation rotor type, variable speed control, modulating capacity.
Sound Level 58 dB Sound power Lwa 58 dB. Sound pressure 40 dB(A) at 3 m. Tested per EN 13053 in AMCA-accredited facility. Acoustic silencers required for occupied office, school, retail, healthcare and fitness scopes.
Filters F7 / M5 F7 supply (ISO ePM1 60%) + M5 extract (ISO ePM10 60%). Panel filter type, 656 × 607 × 98 mm. Pressure-monitored — controller alerts when change is due. Removable from inspection side or separate filter hatch.
Power Supply 230V 1ph 1×230V + N + PE, 50/60 Hz, 16 A fuse. 2.75 kW total power consumption — single-phase. Fan rated power 1.30 kW each (supply + extract). 13.97 A total current. Direct drive EC fans.
Casing C5 / EN 1886 Steel sheets coated with ZM310, double-skinned with 50/30 mm mineral wool insulation. EN 1886:2007 classifications: D1 (mechanical), L1 (air leakage), F9 (filter bypass), T3 (thermal), TB3 (thermal bridging), C5 corrosion (EN ISO 12944-2). Width 725 mm.
Weight & Size 357 kg 357 kg unit weight. Duct connection 600 × 500 mm (4 connections — outdoor, supply, extract, exhaust). Footprint 1,400 × 725 mm, height 1,885 mm. Shipping dimensions 1,755 × 979 × 2,155 mm.
Control NaviPad Access control system with NaviPad 7" IPS touchscreen (IP54). CU27-C2 WiFi unit with 27 physical I/Os. Modbus RS485, Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP. Access Connect mobile app (iOS/Android). Systemair Connect cloud service available.
Ecodesign Approved Fulfils Ecodesign 2018. NRVU/BVU. Temperature ratio 78.9% nominal. SFP int 1.09 kW/(m³/s). Internal leakage 3%. External leakage 2%. Eurovent certified. ErP compliant.

Control

Topvex FR ships with the Access control system — NaviPad touchscreen plus full BMS-grade communications. Designed for facility management at scale, with TCP/IP, Modbus, and BACnet integration as standard. No optional WiFi modules required for app/BMS access.

NaviPad touchscreen

HTML5-based intuitive UI on a flat colour touchscreen, connected via 3 m flat cable. Mounts on the unit or on the wall — easy to detach for handheld use during commissioning. Real-time operating data, settable per project, custom labels for unit/alarms/components.

Modbus RTU + RS-485

Standard on every unit. Serial bus integration with BMS systems via Modbus protocol — typical for office, school and retail fit-outs where ventilation needs to coordinate with heating, lighting, and access control.

BACnet/IP + TCP/IP

BACnet over IP standard — the protocol most commercial BMS systems prefer. Plus direct TCP/IP web server access for browser-based monitoring without additional software. Multi-device monitoring across a local network of Topvex AHUs from one dashboard.

CAV / VAV airflow control

Constant Air Volume standard — fans hold a fixed airflow regardless of filter condition. Variable Air Volume optional — constant duct pressure control, useful where downstream zone dampers vary the building's actual demand (multi-room offices, schools with varied occupancy patterns).

Free cooling + cool recovery

Built-in energy-saving features: when outdoor air is cooler than indoor on a summer evening, free cooling pulls outdoor air directly through. Cool recovery uses the rotor in reverse — recovering coolness from extract on hot days when outdoor air is warmer than the conditioned space.

Pressure-based filter monitoring

Filter status detected by pressure transmitters with airflow-adjusted setpoint — not a simple time-based timer. Means the controller flags filter change exactly when needed, not on an arbitrary schedule. Useful for variable-occupancy buildings where filter loading rate varies.

Sensor inputs (CO₂ / humidity / temp)

Multiple analog and digital inputs for external sensors. CO₂-driven control standard for occupancy zones; humidity for changing-rooms or kitchens; temperature for night setback, free cooling activation, and frost protection on hot water coil systems.

External electrical cabinet

Topvex FR has a separate electrical cabinet with all cable connections collected at one place — facilitates commissioning and service without opening the AHU itself. RJ-45 quick connector for the NaviPad and external HMI.

Installation

Topvex FR is commercial AHU territory — significantly bigger scope than residential MVHR. Typically 5–10 days on site for a single FR unit deployment, plus 2–4 weeks design lead-time. Best specified at first-fix stage of a new fit-out, refurbishment, or commercial newbuild.

01 Design 2–4 weeks before site Zone-by-zone airflow calculation per Building Regulations Part F (or BB101 for schools, HTM 03-01 for healthcare). Size selected from FR03/FR06/FR08/FR11. Reheater type chosen (EL/HWL/HWH/none). L or R hand confirmed. Duct schedule drawn. BMS integration points specified. Acoustic silencer positions specified.
02 First-fix ductwork 3–5 days on site Galvanised or DW/144-grade ductwork installed before plasterboard, suspended ceilings or finishes. Insulated where appropriate. Acoustic silencers fitted on supply and extract — required for office and educational scopes per BB93 / BS 8233. External vents to roof or facade.
03 Plant install 1–2 days on site Topvex FR lifted into position — suspended in a false ceiling, mounted on the floor, or upright on the long side. 357 kg on FR40-R; lifting plan and access route confirmed in advance. Four duct unions made. Mains supply per size (single-phase 230V available up to FR40 — 3-phase 400V on larger sizes). NaviPad routed to a wall position via 3 m cable.
04 Commission 1–2 days Run NaviPad commissioning wizard. Set airflow per zone (l/s or m³/h), CAV or VAV mode, schedules, sensor inputs. Measure and verify with calibrated anemometer at every supply and extract terminal per BESA DW/143. Configure BMS handshake (Modbus / BACnet) and verify point register. Hand over O&M manual, login credentials, filter change schedule.

Configuration & sizing

FR40-R is a 3,150 m³/h flat compact AHU configuration. The Topvex FR family extends from FR03 (240 m³/h, smaller scopes) up to FR60+ (industrial scale) — sizing adjusted to project airflow at quote stage.

FR40-R configuration

3,150 m³/h supply + extract @ 115 Pa. R-hand variant. Single-phase 230V, 16A, 2.75 kW. F7 supply + M5 extract. 77.5% heat recovery (EN 308). 357 kg. C5 corrosion class. Article 473643. £15,600 ex VAT equipment package.

Adjust airflow up — FR60+

For larger commercial scopes (4,500 m³/h+) — large offices, supermarkets, light industrial halls, large fitness centres, school halls. Topvex FR60 and above. Three-phase 400V required. POA — sized to project brief, lead times 6–8 weeks.

Adjust airflow down — FR03 to FR11

For smaller commercial scopes — small offices, single classrooms, retail, daycare rooms, small fitness studios. Legacy compact sizes FR03 (240–800 m³/h) through FR11 (1,500–4,800 m³/h). Quote on request.

L or R hand variant

R (Right) on this configuration — refers to which side the supply air emerges from when viewed from the access side. L variant available for opposite-hand layouts. Selected from building services drawings; affects duct connection geometry, not performance.

Heater options

No integrated reheater on the FR40-R base configuration. Optional add-ons: EL (electric reheater), HWL (Hot Water Low power coil), HWH (Hot Water High power coil) — for buildings with heat pump or boiler hot water available. Or add downstream coil from a separate supply.

CAV or VAV airflow control

CAV (Constant Air Volume) cascaded extract control on this FR40-R configuration. VAV (Variable Air Volume with constant duct pressure) optional — better for buildings with zone dampers and varied occupancy patterns. Selected at order, not field-changeable.

Cooling coil add-on

Downstream water (CWK / PGK series) or DX (DXRE series) cooling coils available for active summer cooling. Fed from chilled water (heat pump) or refrigerant. Specified at design stage based on building's cooling strategy.

Acoustic silencers

Required for occupied office, school, retail, healthcare and fitness scopes per BB93 / BS 8233 acoustic standards. Silencers fitted on supply and extract sides reduce duct-borne noise to occupied-space targets. Specified per project — not included in base equipment.

Aftercare

Commercial AHUs serve buildings that depend on them — service downtime is operationally costly. Topvex FR is engineered for predictable, scheduled servicing with two large inspection doors, removable rotors, and pressure-based filter monitoring that flags change exactly when needed.

2-year manufacturer warranty

Systemair provides a 2-year manufacturer warranty on the unit as standard. Built to Eurovent certification, EN 1886 casing performance, and full ErP compliance. Mature platform — Topvex FR has been Systemair's flat compact AHU range for over a decade.

Pressure-based filter monitoring

F7 + M5 filters changed when pressure transmitters indicate (not on a fixed timer). Typically every 6–12 months depending on outdoor air quality and occupancy density. Filter sets sized to unit; replacement filter pricing scales with unit size — quote on request.

Removable dual rotors

Both heat exchangers lift out from the front for cleaning every 3 years (or sooner if airflow performance drops). Wash in hot soapy water (no ammonia detergents). Rotor weight: FR03 31 kg, FR06 43 kg, FR08 55 kg, FR11 ~75 kg — two-person lift on the larger sizes.

Drive belt — replaceable

A rubber drive belt rotates each heat exchanger via the rotor motor. The controller flags an alarm if the belt slips or breaks. Replacement straightforward — Systemair supplies belts as service spares. Plan for one belt change per rotor in a 10-year service life.

Two large inspection doors

Full service access from the front — main components (rotors, fans, filters, heater) all reachable without dismantling adjacent ductwork. Doors open with a 16 mm key (supplied with unit). Sliding door kit available as accessory for false-ceiling installs.

CleverBloom commercial service plan

For office, school, retail, and HMO clients, CleverBloom offers scheduled service contracts: filter changes, rotor inspection, flow rate verification with calibrated anemometer, sensor recalibration, and BMS handshake testing. Quoted per project based on building size and access.
