Whole-house balanced flow

A single Q350 unit serves the whole home. Fresh air is supplied to every habitable room (bedrooms, living rooms, study), stale air is extracted from kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms. Two ebm-papst EC fans run continuously to maintain balanced pressure across the whole house.

Diamond enthalpy exchanger

The patented diamond-shaped counter-flow exchanger has 25% more surface area than conventional plate exchangers. The ERV core transfers both heat and humidity — recovering 86% of room heat and 73% of room humidity simultaneously.

Filter every breath

Two filters: G4 (ISO Coarse) on the extract side, G4 standard or F7 pollen filter (ISO ePM10) on the supply side. Filter change indicator on the unit and in the app warns when replacement is due — typically every 6–12 months.

Self-balancing airflow

Patented sensor technology automatically maintains balanced supply and extract volumes. No annual recommissioning needed — the unit re-balances itself if filters age, ducts settle, or system pressure drifts. Saves time on commissioning too: dial-a-duty feature.

Modulating summer by-pass

When indoor temperature exceeds your set comfort threshold, 100% of extract air bypasses the heat exchanger — bringing cooler outdoor air directly into the home. The bypass is modulating, not all-or-nothing — saving you from the temperature swings of fixed bypass systems.

Frost protection without pre-heater

The ERV's enthalpy exchanger handles frost protection naturally — humidity recovery prevents the cold-side surface from icing. Unlike HRV variants, no pre-heater is needed, no additional power consumption in winter, no extra failure point.

Control

The Q350 has a built-in display and three layers of optional control: wall panels (ComfoSense / ComfoSwitch), the ComfoControl app via LAN or KNX, and demand-control sensors. Designed for set-and-forget operation that scales to as much detail as the homeowner wants.

Built-in display

Integrated control panel on the unit shows current fan speed, filter status, fault messages, and operating mode. Direct adjustment without any other component required. The default for most installations.

ComfoSense C67 wall panel

Wired touchscreen wall panel with full system access — schedules, modes, sensor thresholds, fault diagnostics. The standard occupant-facing controller for serious installations. Fits a 2-gang back box.

ComfoSwitch C67 boost panel

Simpler wired wall panel — fan speed up/down and boost only. Good for kitchens and bathrooms where occupants need a quick boost button without the full UI.

ComfoControl app

iOS and Android app provides full system control, scheduling, fault alerts, and remote operation. Connects via the optional ComfoConnect LAN C interface. Includes commissioning wizard for installer setup.

KNX integration

Optional ComfoConnect KNX C interface integrates the Q350 into a wider home automation system. Room-by-room scheduling, scene-based control, and integration with heating, lighting, and security systems.

CO₂ and humidity sensors

Optional plug-in sensor boards automate fan speed selection. CO₂ sensor for occupancy-driven ventilation, humidity sensor for moisture-driven boost. Both feed directly into the unit's controller.

Modulating summer by-pass

Adjustable comfort temperature trigger, with intelligent modulating bypass to avoid temperature swings. Can be tuned per home — typical 22–24°C activation point.

Boost mode

Timed boost across the whole house — for kitchen extraction, post-shower drying, or rapid air change after gatherings. Triggered at any control panel or via the app. Returns to scheduled mode automatically.

Installation

Through-wall installation with a larger Ø270 mm core drill. Often installed as a pair on opposing walls in conference rooms or classrooms for whole-room balanced ventilation.

01 Design 2–3 weeks before site Room-by-room ventilation calculation per Passivhaus methodology. Plant location agreed (utility, plant cupboard, loft). Duct routing drawn. Supply and extract terminals marked on architect drawings. ComfoFresh duct schedule generated.
02 First-fix ductwork 1–2 days on site Ductwork installed before plasterboard / floor finishes go in. Supply ducts to habitable rooms, extract from kitchens / bathrooms / utility. Insulated duct in unconditioned voids (loft). External vents fitted to roof or facade.
03 Plant install 1 day on site Q350 unit mounted (wall bracket or floor base), four duct connections made, mains 230V power connected. ComfoSense C67 wall panel wired to a chosen control location. ComfoConnect LAN/KNX wired if specified.
04 Commission Half day Run the in-app commissioning wizard. Set room-by-room flow rates per design. Measure and verify with an anemometer at every supply / extract grille. Hand over operating manual, app credentials, and filter change schedule.

Components

Centralised whole-house MVHR. The Q350 plant unit sits in a service location (utility room, plant cupboard, loft) with four 160 mm duct runs to fresh-air intake, exhaust outlet, supply manifold, and extract manifold. Different from wall units in every meaningful way.

Q350 plant unit

50 kg unit, ABS housing with internal polyethylene body. Wall-mounted bracket as standard, optional floor-standing mounting base. Left-hand or right-hand duct configuration selectable in the same device — no separate SKU.

Diamond enthalpy exchanger

The defining component. Patented diamond-shaped counter-flow geometry with 25% more surface area than conventional plate exchangers. ERV core transfers both heat and humidity. Washable for service.

ebm-papst EC fans

Two German-engineered EC (electronically commutated) fans — supply and extract. Industrial-grade brushless DC motors with low specific power consumption (0.22 W/(m³/h)) Passivhaus certified. 50,000+ hour design life.

Four 160 mm duct spigots

Standard 160 mm duct connections for fresh air intake, exhaust outlet, supply manifold to habitable rooms, extract manifold from wet rooms. Compatible with all Zehnder ComfoTube and ComfoFresh duct components.

Modulating summer by-pass

Standard component (no upgrade needed). Up to 100% of extract air bypasses the heat exchanger when home temperature exceeds the comfort threshold. Modulating control avoids temperature swings.

G4 / F7 filters

Two filters: G4 (ISO Coarse ≥ 65%) on extract, G4 standard or F7 (ISO ePM1 ≥ 65%) on supply. Tool-free replacement. Optional active charcoal filter available for traffic-fronted homes.

No condensate drain

The ERV variant's enthalpy exchanger reabsorbs moisture into the supply air stream — no condensate is produced, no drain required. Simplifies plant location options dramatically.

ComfoControl app + LAN/KNX

Optional ComfoConnect LAN C interface enables full app control. Optional ComfoConnect KNX C interface integrates with home automation systems. Wired ComfoSense C67 wall panel is the standard occupant interface.

ComfoClime / ComfoPost compatible

Designed to accept the bolt-on ComfoClime cooling/heating module or the ComfoPost post-heater/cooler battery. Adds active cooling and heating capability through the existing duct infrastructure. Specify at design stage.

Aftercare

The Q350 is engineered for long-term low-touch operation. Filters change in under five minutes; the enthalpy exchanger is washable; the ductwork itself has no moving parts. Most homeowners self-maintain; we offer optional servicing for those who don't want to.

2-year warranty + 4-year extension

Zehnder UK provides a 2-year manufacturer warranty as standard. An optional 4-year warranty extension is available, taking total cover to 6 years. Built to ISO 9001 standards with a global service network.

Filter change every 6–12 months

Two G4 (or F7+G4) filters, accessed by lifting the front cover. Tool-free replacement. The app and built-in display warn when change is due. Filter sets ~£35 (G4/G4) or ~£45 (G4/F7) from Zehnder UK.

Washable enthalpy exchanger

The diamond-shaped enthalpy core lifts out for cleaning periodically — typically every 2–3 years. Wash with water per Zehnder's maintenance guidance. The exchanger does not degrade with cleaning.

Ductwork — no scheduled maintenance

Once correctly installed and balanced, the ComfoFresh duct system runs maintenance-free. Smooth-bore plastic ducts don't accumulate dust the way old galvanised systems did. No annual cleaning needed.

App-based fault diagnosis

The ComfoControl app flags any fault directly to the homeowner. CleverBloom can also provide remote support via the app for diagnosis without needing a site visit. Catches issues early.

Optional CleverBloom service plan

For homeowners who don't want to self-maintain, CleverBloom offers an annual visit covering filter change, exchanger inspection, flow rate verification, and any sensor recalibration. Specify at handover.
